Ti Kuan Yin Oolong Tea – Loose Leaf Iron Buddha

Ti Kuan Yin, also known as Iron Buddha or “Iron Goddess of Mercy,” is one of China’s most celebrated loose leaf oolong teas.

Harvested in October in the famed Fujian province, this autumn-grown oolong offers a depth of flavour not typically found in spring teas.

Its warm, roasted aroma and full-bodied infusion deliver the ripeness and maturity that make it a classic of the Chinese tea tradition.

A balanced and grounding cup, perfect for those who appreciate characterful, traditional oolong teas.

Taste Profile

Ti Kuan Yin Oolong reveals a complex flavour profile—bold and aromatic with notes of toasted grains, honeyed orchid, and a slight mineral undertone.

Its full body and lingering warmth make it a smooth yet deeply engaging tea.

If you enjoy this oolong, you may also like Tung Ting Oolong, Da Hong Pao Oolong or Jade Oolong

Origin

Our Ti Kuan Yin Oolong comes from the mountainous tea gardens of Fujian province in China, where it is traditionally harvested in the autumn.

The name translates to “Iron Goddess of Mercy,” a reference to both the tea’s spiritual heritage and its bold, lasting character.

Unlike lighter spring teas, this autumn-harvested variety has a ripeness and depth that develops from extended growing time and cooler weather.

The leaves are gently oxidised and roasted, resulting in a smooth, golden infusion with rich aroma and presence.

Brewing Guide

Here’s how to brew the perfect cup of Ti Kuan Yin Oolong:

  • Tea Quantity: 1 heaped tsp (approx. 3g) per 200ml water
  • Water Temperature: 90°C
  • Steeping Time: 2–3 minutes
  • Serving Suggestions: Best enjoyed plain without milk or sugar

This tea can be re-steeped 2–3 times, revealing new dimensions of flavour with each infusion.

Benefits

Ti Kuan Yin Oolong is moderately caffeinated and naturally rich in antioxidants and theanine, supporting mental clarity and calm focus.

With its robust body and clean finish, it’s a grounding tea that offers digestive support and gentle energy without overstimulation.

A timeless choice for those seeking balance in every cup.
