Dark Pearl Oolong Tea (No.310)
£1.90 – £143.60
Grown in Tai Tung, Taiwan. Hand picked & shaped into pearls. Highly aromatic scent of exotic fruits
Dark Pearl Oolong is a special oolong produced in Luye, Tai Tung County on the south-eastern coast of Taiwan. Luye is surrounded by large mountains and picturesque rivers which are utilised to irrigate the nearby tea plants. Dark Pearl Oolong has a longer fermentation time compared to traditional oolongs. For instance, Dark Pearl Oolong is oxidised at 80% where traditional oolongs are oxidised at 10-70%. This makes Dark Pearl Oolong Tea much closer to a black tea as black teas are oxidised at 100%. Tea makers discovered Dark Pearl Oolong not only requires high oxidation, but also heavy roasting methods (‘killing the green’).
The heavy roasting method is used to remove bitterness and enhance aroma. This is predominantly due to this oolong being grown at a much lower elevation than traditional high-grown oolongs. The round shape of dark pearl oolong tea leaves is made through a method known as ‘canvas ball rolling’ which is responsible for its pearl shape. In terms of flavour, this oolong develops a nutty, roasted flavour with a soft and smooth sweetness. A must try for tea connoisseurs, especially those fond of Da Hong Pao Oolong Tea.
