Tea Description
Our Pai Mu Tan Organic White Tea, also known as White Peony, is a premium loose-leaf tea that offers a refined experience.
Sourced from certified organic tea gardens, this exceptional tea is hand-plucked with care and then naturally dried.
This traditional, gentle approach preserves the tea’s pure, delicate flavour and high antioxidant content.
Pai Mu Tan is renowned for its large, unrolled leaves, which showcase a beautiful mix of green and silvery-white tips.
These silvery leaves are a hallmark of high-quality white tea, indicating that only the youngest and most tender buds are selected.
When brewed, this white tea produces a shimmering amber infusion with a clean, crisp flavour profile.
The taste is elegantly spicy, with subtle floral notes and a natural sweetness that lingers on the palate.
History of Pai Mu Tan White Tea
Its history is rooted in China’s long tradition of tea cultivation, in the Fujian province, which is the heart of white tea production.
The name Pai Mu Tan translates to “White Peony” in English, which is fitting given the tea’s delicate and refined nature.
The term “Pai” refers to the silvery, white tips of the young tea buds, and “Mu Tan” refers to the peony-like shape of the leaves.
The tea is traditionally made from the youngest buds and the first few leaves of the tea plant, which are carefully hand-picked early in the plucking season when the buds are still covered in fine silver hairs.
Unlike other teas that are oxidised or rolled, white tea undergoes minimal processing—after the leaves are picked, they are simply sun-dried or dried in controlled rooms, allowing the leaves to retain their natural flavours and delicate qualities.
White tea was once a luxury reserved for the imperial court due to the intensive process involved in its overall production.
