Japan Hojicha Organic Green Tea (No.123)
£2.00 – £75.90
Carefully roasted over charcoal. Toasty, nutty, caramel-like flavour. Strong with mild coffee notes
Grown from organic cultivation in Japan Hojicha is produced in a similar way to Kukicha Green Tea Twigs using the leaf stalks and twigs. With Hojicha they obtain the stalks and twigs from Sencha or Bancha green teas. Hojicha is created by first steaming to halt the oxidation process and then roasted over charcoal. The roasting aspect of Hojicha Green Tea makes it unique as most Japanese green teas are just steamed rather than also being roasted. The roasting process produces the distinctive Hojicha taste which is a toasty, nutty caramel flavour; rather than typical grassy green tea tones. As there are no whole green tea leaves used, it makes this tea naturally low in caffeine. Japanese Hojicha Tea is traditionally served as an evening tea, especially before or after dinner.
