Black Tea
Black tea is a type of tea made from the fully oxidised leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which gives it a dark colour and bold, robust flavour. Unlike green tea, the leaves are allowed to wither and oxidise completely before being dried, a process that enhances the tea’s strength and brings out its renowned rich, malty notes. Well-known varieties include Assam, known for its strong, malty taste; Ceylon, which is bright and citrusy; and Darjeeling, often referred to as the “champagne of teas” for its delicate, floral aroma. Black tea is widely consumed around the world and is the base for many popular blends, such as English Breakfast and Earl Grey. It contains more caffeine than green tea and is often enjoyed on its own or with milk, sugar and sometimes lemon.Â
