Ceylon FOP Ratnapura Explained
Ceylon Ratnapura Black Tea has been sourced from the Ratnapura District in Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka.
Ratnapura (meaning the ‘City of Gems’) is surrounded by hills and valleys with fertile soils famously rich in stones, sapphires and rubies.
It is a low grown tea region as its tea estates reach a maximum elevation of 2,500 feet from sea level.
The Ratnapura plantation itself is located in the central highlands south of the city of Kandy in the Dimbula district.
The lower elevations and growing conditions contribute to its unique taste.
In terms of appearance, the fine, pine-needle-like leaf has many silvery tips.
The tea tastes aromatic and spicy similar to an Assam tea.
When brewed, discover a copper-coloured cup with a much familiar Ceylonese taste.
