Green Tea
Green tea is a type of tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. It originated in China but is now widely consumed around the world for its light, fresh flavour and health benefits. The tea leaf undergoes minimal oxidation which preserves the chlorophyll, resulting in the tea retaining its green colour and vegetal flavour. Chinese green teas are typically pan-fired, giving them a toasty flavour, while Japanese green teas are usually steamed, resulting in a more grassy and vegetal taste. The term “Sencha” means steamed tea in Japanese and is a method also used for Chinese teas.
